The De Tomaso Deauville was first shown at the 1970 Turin Motor Show and went on sale in 1971. The body design was developed by Ghia designer Tom Tjaarda, and assembly took place at the De Tomaso plant in Modena. The limousine bore some resemblance to the Jaguar XJ, but differed in its inverted trapezoidal grille and four round headlights set in separate rectangular blocks. A total of 244 were produced from 1971 to 1985.
