About the 3500 GT, GTI and Spyder
Text and Photos by Francis G. Mandarano or courtesy of the MIE Collection.
Early cars in nice condition offer superb vintage characteristics (after all these are the grandfathers of the later Ghibli and Indy type GT cars), and beneath their all-aluminum skin, you'll find a great deal of refinement for the period. Standard equipment included leather upholstery, wool carpeting, aluminum inline 6 cylinder engine, fitted with twin cams and three Weber carburetors. Those with the "GTI" designation were fitted with the Lucas fuel injection system (i = injected). Later versions had additional refinements that enhanced an existing winner.
